I DIDN'T KNOW GENE THAT WELL BUT SPENT SON TIME WITH HIS SON.
What strikes me is how Gene cared so much about community and providing a place where people could gather and enjoy all that Gene had put his hand on and made Auburn a better place to live.
All to often we fail to recognize the people that make our community stronger and Gene was one of those people.
To his family, carry on his vision and see the value of our young people and what they contribute to the community.
Gene,you made a difference to many and will be remembered for your dedication.

Gene was such an inspirational community leader. I spent many years working with him through the Auburn Recreation Department and its community programs. He was such a gracious and kind man who was always available. Working with him through the years was one of my most rewarding activities.
Peace and love be with his family. He was a treasure.

I'm so very sorry for your loss... I just saw the notice today... consider myself very luck to have seen him this year and get one of his wonderful warm loving hugs... Marlene you know YOU were HIS best friend as well. So enjoyed seeing the two of you...visiting with you at any time you both exuded life and living.

Was thinking of you all with the loss of Papa Keene, a man We truly cared about and respected. Many interesting conversations with him and he was there to help you at the drop of a hat. He did a lot for me in getting my camper set up at our campsite and was always available for a beer. No question he will be solely missed but the many wonderful memories of him will last forever. I feel honored to have known him and to be thought of as a friend. Our thoughts and prayers go out to my buddy Gene Jr and his whole family. May you always have him in your hearts with the many memories he provided for all of us

Marlene & Family,
So saddened to hear of Gene's passing. We are in Sarasota until the end of March and will be unable to attend the celebration of life next month.
We were just thinking of you and Gene as we were driving by The Arbors, and the good times we shared visiting with you while we were in Florida. Gene was a great storyteller and a wonderful person to be with.
