April 16, 2015 | Kaszi Smith - Lewiston, Maine -- androscoggin

So sorry to hear that George had passed. He was one of my absolute favorite residents at d'youville. He had such a light about him that made everyone he met fill with joy! You could never have a bad day with George around. RIP my friend!

February 24, 2015 | Paula Mikkelsen - Trumansburg, Tompkins, NY -- USA

George was an absolute joy! I knew him from First Auburn Seniors where he always had a smile on his face and a camera in his hand. He loved taking pictures of everyone and everything, and bringing prints to you next meeting. We missed him so when he began to have health problems and moved to the Odd Fellows Home, and asked about him often. Mom (Lucy Cowles) loved him too - the only one in the club older than she is! She'll wear that crown in his memory.

February 2, 2015 | Stephanie Brownell - Wales, Maine -- US

George used to be my favorite customer when I was a teller at Key Bank in Great Falls Plaza. He always came in with a smile and no matter what kind of mood there was it changed when he walked in the room. He was an exceptional person and will be greatly missed by many. I express my deepest sympathies and condolences to your family.

Rest in Peace Gramps. You will be remembered for the hard worker and kind man you were as we list you as one of our unsung heroes as a millworker. Thank you for sharing your life with us in your oral history, the articles you placed in our care and helping fill in pieces of the puzzle as to who we are as a people. You are truly part of the "Greatest Generation".

You were an inspiration to us as you got so excited about the work you did, remembered it with such gusto and pride. Your hearty laugh couldn't help but make us laugh and your strong voice kept us all listening. Great stories.

We loved you and thank you greatly.

January 30, 2015 | Dan & Rhonda Obie - Lewiston, Maine -- USA

Grampa- Sorry we didn’t get to bring you to camp again, we know you enjoyed it there… and didn’t get you boating out on Flagstaff Lake with us, you would have really loved the view. This all pales in comparison to the good times that I, Dan, enjoyed with you when I was younger-ice fishing on Lake Thompson, dipping smelts around your favorite brooks, learning about minerals (rocks) and all the other things you collected, as well as boating & fishing on Aziscohos Lake. We all learned much from you and enjoyed time with you (except the constant college football on TV- LOL) I’m sure Gram has been excited to see you and you will keep the big man upstairs in stiches, like you did the rest of us. Behave yourself Grampa. We’ll Miss You~! Love always, Dan & Rhonda
