February 25, 2025 | Martha Seagrave - Burlington, VT -- United States

I don't know if you will even see this as I am so late in posting. I didn't know that David had passed. I just wanted to get his opinion pn something related to our work and I googled to see how to reach him. I knew him well about 20 years ago when he was in West Virginia. We were both members of STFM Northeast, a family medicine education organization dedicated to promoting and supporting family medicine. I met him the first year I joined and really enjoyed seeing him yearly at the meetings. I would occasionally see him at national meeting after he moved to Wisconsin. I held him in high regard and considered him a friend although we only crossed paths at meetings. He was a wonderful man, generous of heart and spirit and this world is less without him. My condolences to those closest to him. Martha

I just found out of his passing. I credit Dr. Deci for saving my life when he was treating me for double Pneumonia. I will add him to my daily prayers, a wonderful caring man. May God Bless his family and may the Virgin Mary watch over him.

I remember David with fondness, admiration, and respect. He embodied compassion and loving-kindness. He listened beautifully. It was an honor to know him.

June 5, 2023 | Celeste Paquette, MD - Tallahassee, Florida -- united States

I first met David at FSU during pre-med undergraduate classes and continued with this endearing friendship through medical school up to the present. It was clear that he was a motivated, bright, hard working student who was passionate about learning (everything) and always demonstrated a high level of integrity and compassion. He gave me just enough competition to keep me on my toes and appreciate the challenge. Over the years, thanks to his loving wife, I have been kept up to date on all the job changes and moves, growth of their family and occasional crises that threw obstacles their way. I have to say, I always cherished the camaraderie, the intellectual and humorous conversations and occasional visits. David has left us too soon and so much love and talent has been taken from his family. RIP Dr. Deci.

May 22, 2023 | James Ircink - Madison, WI -- USA

Dr. Deci was a friend and mentor whose support throughout medical school and residency meant the world to me. Our shared passion for family medicine and street medicine brought us even closer, as we spent several years volunteering with MEDiC and Madison Street Medicine together. His devotion and heart for working with individuals experiencing homelessness was inspiring and gave me the courage to "go to the people", which I will carry with me for the rest of my life. I am so grateful to have had Dave as a teacher, mentor, and friend.

I was deeply saddened to learn of Dave's passing. He was an incredible doctor, teacher and colleague. I first met Dave during my first week of medical school when he and Diane opened their home to a few nervous 1st year medical students, including myself, and I vividly recall him telling stories of his first years in practice in rural West Virginia. Getting to know him during medical school and hearing him speak about street medicine, I looked up to him as the type compassionate family physician I wanted to become. It was surreal experience and such a gift joining the Belleville clinic as a practicing physician years later and getting to work alongside him as a colleague. He was always a dedicated, kind and humble physician and person. He was adored by his patients who tell me how much he is missed. Thank you Dave for everything you taught me.

A truly kind and giving person that went out of his way to help everyone. I missed him when he retired from UW Department of Family Medicine and Community Health. My condolences to his family.
