My condolences to the Barnes family at the passing of a truly great friend and fellow teacher at the North Berwick Primary School. Donna and I worked together for many years and I learned so much from her. She was a supportive friend and colleague, an inspiration to all who were fortunate to work with her. So many children who had Mrs.Barnes as their teacher were the lucky ones!

I was one of the lucky ones and got to teach with Donna in North Berwick. She was by far had the greatest influence on how I worked with young readers and writers in the classroom. I was a "one and done" teacher before I was able to sit and observe in Donna's class and finally understood that writing is truly a process! I loved our friendship and how easy it was for her to see the sunny side of a situation when I was sure there wasn't one. I will miss always remember her sense of humor, her belief to hold high expectations for all students, and how proud she was to be a mom to Julian and Caitlin, and a best friend to Bob.
