George made a difference in my life. I started at Newfab February 1999 at the age of 23. George really took me under his wing there and taught me a lot about metal fabrication and much more. I will always remember a time working with him on the shear. I was engaged to be married in September of ‘99. In the casual conversation, he asked “Do you plan to have kids?” I said I wasn’t sure. He told me “Don’t wait, my wife and I waited too long and are not able to have kids” “Don’t worry about money or anything else, you’ll figure it out” George always took the time to explain how he saw projects he was working on. How he would plan out and analyze the step and possible issues. He is what I would consider a master craftsman. He helped me to really hone my individual skills to approach tasks in a more thoughtful way. To continually learn new skills and better ways of doing things. He also took the time to check in and talk with me. Through those early years of marriage, I went through some very trying times. I am very thankful he did. Because on some days he was the only one that took the time to help me keep my heart and mind focused on what was important. Encouraging words to put in the hard work and endure the tough times. Other special moments are when I would bring my son into work to sit in the office. He would talk to Ripley and tell him about gold sleuthing and bring in the containers of gold he captured. Beautiful works he made metalsmithing. On my last day at Newfab in May of 2017, I thanked George for everything. His time, tutoring, and encouragement. Of course, in his humble manner, he excepted the compliment and just responded with “Well, your welcome, you got to take some credit, you were willing to listen” He was truly a thoughtful, caring, giving man that I am absolutely grateful to have had in my life.
