Biography:

AUBURN - Irene Monique Leblanc Witas, age 82, of Auburn, Maine, passed away peacefully while surrounded by loved ones on November 13, 2021. She was born on August 27, 1939 to Roy and Marie Leblanc. She was the wife of Warren Lee Witas, and the two recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on November 6.

Irene was an active member of St. Louis Parish in Auburn, where she worked at the Rectory under Father Henry Dallaire and Father Paul Plante. She taught Catechesis and oversaw the food pantry up until the church’s closing in 2013. She then became a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Auburn.

Irene loved to travel, and did so extensively during Warren’s military career. She enjoyed reading, knitting, needle-point, and making puzzles. She was a wonderful cook. She loved spending time with her family and she especially loved spoiling her grandchildren.

Irene is survived by her husband, Warren Witas, and their children, Michael Witas and his wife Linda, Shari (Witas) Mendenhall and her husband Allan, Jeffrey Witas, James Witas, and Jennifer (Witas) Malloy and her husband Micah. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Melissa (Witas) Hubert and her husband Joshua, Julia Witas, Sarah Witas, Jacob Malloy and his wife Grace, Megan Malloy, Lauren Malloy, Stacy (Mendenhall) Yannelli and her husband Brian, Shanan Mendenhall, Tammera Talley and Charli (Talley) Reynolds and her husband Bill, as well as her great-grandchildren: Helena, Liam, Willow, Elyssa, Bryce, Mathew, Victoria and James. Additionally, she is survived by her sister, Venise (Leblanc) Dube, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brothers Roland Leblanc and Girard Leblanc, sisters Rita Leblanc, Germaine (Leblanc) County, Georgette (Leblanc) Boucher, and Annette (Leblanc) Frechette and granddaughter Emilee (Talley) Shaw.

Irene’s family would like to thank Clover Manor and Androscoggin Home Healthcare and Hospice for the professional, kind, and compassionate care that was given to Irene during her final days.

A funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church at 11am on Saturday, November 20th, 2021. Graveside committal services will be held immediately following at Oak Hill Cemetery in New Auburn.
