Biography:
Millard “Mim” Raymond Welch

After leaving High school, in 1963 Mim served in the US Navy on the USS Yosemite, a destroyer tender, built during WWII whose job was to service the destroyers in or near battles. Fortunately, while he was aboard, they rarely left the east coast. Following that, he joined the Navy Reserve for two more years and eventually landed in the Maine National Guard, working with the 133rd Engineering Battalion, housed in Portland and Gardiner with detachment in Lewiston. Mim served his country for 23 years.
After his stint with the Navy Mim was employed by a plumber in the Grey/ Glouster area, which enabled him to have a career at Bath Iron Works as a pipe fitter and later as a Planner for the Pipe Shop. After retirement MIm worked doing carpentry and plumbing ‘til he took his true retirement. He got up every morning and drove down to Johnny’s Garage in Wiscasset. He quickly became one of “Johnny’s Boy’s” where the coffee was always on, and laughter was the norm. The was his routine until covid hit. Unfortunately, before the group was able to reconvene, he was stricken with vascular dementia and several other diseases that eventually took his life on April 18,2025.
Mim had three children. Cornell Raymond, Della Welch Snow and Jason Warren. He has many grandchildren and even a few great grandchildren.
He lived in Lewiston, Sabattus, Monmouth and finally Jefferson, where he resided with his present-day wife Mattie Welch.
