Biography:

Elizabeth “Betty” Walder 83 of South Paris passed away peacefully on February 7, 2024 at the Androscoggin Hospice House in Auburn, ME. She was born on May 9, 1940 in Lewiston to her parents Donald & Louise Richardson of Sumner.


She attended school in West Paris and graduated from high school there in 1958. Betty lived in Sumner most of her life. Betty and her first husband had four boys, Kevin, Jeff, Dennis & Dean Dillingham. In 1987 Betty married her second husband Bob Walder, and his son Scott Walder became part of the family.


In her younger years she was a 4-H leader and enjoyed the annual trips to the Eastern States Exposition = the Big E in Springfield, MA. She was a member of the Sumner Volunteer Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary. She was an avid sports fan and had many favorite athletes including Larry Bird, Richard Petty, and Pete Rose. Her comfy place was home watching the Boston Red Sox, Celtics or a Nascar race. Betty was a member of the West Sumner Universalist Church. She enjoyed the many trips that her and Bob took over the years as well as winters spent in Shallotte, NC.

Betty worked at Penley Corp, B&E Orchards, and C.F. Wells.


Her greatest joy was spending time with family, especially with grand and great grandchildren. There was no medication that made her feel better than the love and support of her family, many of whom visited her in her final days.


She is predeceased by her parents, husband Bob, sons Kevin and Jeff.


She is survived by sons Dennis Dillingham (Michelle), Dean Dillingham (Kim), Scott Walder, Special Daughter in-law Stacy Dillingham, Brothers Donald Richardson Jr (Linda), Jim Richardson (Cindy), Steve Richardson (Miriam), Bob Arris (Janet). Sisters Marilyn Hammond (Raymond), Linda Arris (Linda Hayes), Donna Stevens (Steve), Pat Bailey (Dennis), Chris Knights (Jim), Darlene Smith (Rob). Many grandchildren and great grandchildren.


A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday February 11, 2024 at the American Legion 12 Church St. South Paris, ME. @ 11:00am. In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Sumner Volunteer Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary 633 Main St. Sumner, ME 04292. The family would like to give a special Thank You to the staff at Stephens Memorial Hospital and the Androscoggin Hospice House.
