Biography:
Elizabeth P. Vaughan Flynn, affectionately known as Betty, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2025, surrounded by family and friends just a few days before her 89th birthday.
Betty was born on February 15, 1936 in Boston, Massachusetts. The daughter of Cecil V Craig and Ethel F. (DeLandes) Craig. Betty graduated from Quincy School of Nursing in 1958. She worked as the School Nurse in many schools in the Fryeburg, ME area. She cherished her time spent as a Girl Scout Leader and at the Portsmouth Yacht Club. Betty spent much of her time between Maine, North Carolina and St. Maarten.
Betty was married to her late husband, Earle S Vaughan, from 1958 until his death in 2000. Together, Betty and Earle owned and operated The Horny Toad Guest House in Simpson Bay, St. Maarten; a place where they welcomed many guests over the years and made lifelong friends. In 2011, Betty married her second husband, Philip F Flynn, at The Horny Toad, a location that had been dear to her heart for so many years. She and Phil enjoyed traveling and went on many cruises together.
Betty is survived by her husband, Philip F Flynn; her daughter, Deborah A Gorton, and her husband Douglas W Gorton; and her grandchildren, Stephanie A (Gorton) and her husband Dane M Lary; Heather E (Gorton) and her husband Spencer G Allin; and John E Gorton and his wife Sierra L (Hein). She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Milo and Maxabell Lary, Emilia and Jackson Allin. Betty’s 5th great grandchild, Elena Elizabeth Gorton, arrived two days after her passing.
Known for her fierce and spirited nature and her love for her family, Betty will be remembered and deeply missed by all of her family and friends.
