Date of Birth: April 30, 1951

Biography:

Troy, ME - On June 1, 2017, Lorren Simon Thurston, of Troy, Maine, 66 years of age, passed from this life after a courageous battle with Lymphoma. Lorren was a loving, caring, wife, mother, and grandmother who knew our time here is short and shared her life to the fullest with family and friends-- loving to travel and visit with her children and their families. She was not only a recently retired hospital social worker, she was a social person, making friends easily wherever she went. Lorren was ever the optimist and a special soul mate.

Lorren grew up in Erie, Penn., the daughter of John and Elizabeth Simon. After graduating from Penn State University with a masters degree in social work, she spread her wings, married, and began a family-- eventually spending most of her career as a social worker at Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield, Maine.
Lorren was an avid Scrabble player and she loved puzzles. She was an excellent cook and an enthusiastic gardener. She enjoyed music, especially the Blues, Folk, and Reggae. Lorren loved to refinish furniture and make baskets, and she was a big fan of thrift store shopping. She most enjoyed being with her family and friends.
Lorren leaves her husband, Kent Thurston of Troy, Maine; her daughter, Megan Wagner and her family of Oberammergau, Germany: husband Josh , and children Gabriel, Scarlett, and August; her son, Brendan Yuill and his family of New Orleans, LA: wife Nicole, and children Winslow and Florence; her stepson Derek Thurston and his family of Centreville, VA: wife Erin and son Nicholas; and her stepson Shawn Thurston and his family of Savannah, GA: wife Lory, stepdaughter Laura Lomboy, and newborn son Jonathan Thurston.
Lorren will be sadly missed and live on fondly in our memories forever.
A memorial service will be held at an as yet undetermined place and time. Those interested in attending should contact Lorren's husband, Kent Thurston, for future notification of the event.
Donations in Lorren's memory are suggested to a cancer center or organization of your choice or to a local hospice.
