Roger Allen Spencer

Date of Death: December 12, 2023

Date of Birth: January 6, 1954

Biography:

It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of Roger A. Spencer. He passed quietly at Maine General in Augusta after a long battle with COPD and numerous bouts of Pneumonia.

Roger was the second youngest of nine children born to Arthur Spencer and Dorothy (Gogan) Spencer on January 6th, 1954. In the summer of 1971, Roger met the love of his life & best friend Lynne M. Zibbell at Unity Campground & Marina. They married the following June in Livonia, MI where they began their married life and family.

Roger was employed at Ford Motor Co. working the assembly line. After the birth of two beautiful daughters they decided to return to Maine. There, they had a third daughter and Roger worked 25 years for BIW, working his way up from decking to Purchasing Agent. Roger managed all the procurements for the repair of the U.S.S. Cole from the bombing in Yemen. This took him and Lynne to MS. for nearly a year and a half. Once back home in Maine they moved from their many years in Shawmut to a home they purchased in Richmond. After that it was a move to Punta Gorda, Fl. and Englewood, Fl. for 13 years while he worked at Turbine Weld Inc. rebuilding aircraft engines. Then Maine called to them once again, and at 65 he retired to come home where his children now had their own children which included 3 granddaughters, 3 grandsons and our special Great Grandson Enoch.

Once home, Rogers' health began to decline rapidly. Roger graduated from Lawrence High School in Fairfield in 1972. Roger loved music and dancing. He had a gift at woodworking building most of their furniture. He loved wood carving as well, making Lynne the antique style Santas that she loved.

He loved Lawrence basketball and football and never missed a game his daughters were cheering for. He loved classic cars, Stephen King books, and horror films. He would compare notes with his eldest daughter Dariel of which movie was good and why. He also loved to fish with the silence and peacefulness of it and he and Lynne did of course several years of the Maine hobby of camping.

Roger was an exceptional  father, grandfather, son-in-law and of course husband for 52 years. His family was everything to him. Anyone who met him instantly liked him or loved him. He had a wonderful sense of humor that won over everyone. He has left a major hole in the lives of his family. He will be forever missed and never forgotten by his wife Lynne, daughters Dariel Simmons of Auburn, Summer Bechard of Lewiston, and Brandi Harding of Augusta. Also granddaughter Reagan Nedeau, great grandson Enoch Nedeau, Ashley Cyr of Vassalboro, Bailey of Augusta, Noah Bechard, Chandler Bechard and Spencer Bechard all of Lewiston, as well as Dariel's partner Hope Heath of Auburn.

In Lieu of flowers: Please donate to help homeless Vets.

Roger's beloved brother Butch was a Marine in Vietnam and was injured severely so Vets always held a special place in his heart.
