With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Joseph F. Short, aged 80, of Minot, who departed this life peacefully at his home on January 24, 2025. Joe was born on April 21, 1944, to Alfred Short and Gertrude Clements.
In his younger days, Joe was a dedicated truck driver, hauling for Decoster Egg, Country Kitchen, and Ryder Truck. He later found his true calling as a school bus driver for the City of Auburn, where he became a beloved figure among countless students, celebrating him as their all-time favorite bus driver.
Joe’s passion for life extended far beyond his professional endeavors. He enjoyed working on and racing stock cars with his brothers. But above all, Joe had an unwavering love for the woods and a profound passion for hunting, trapping, and fishing. As a Registered Maine Guide, Joe led many organized coyote hunts and passed his love of hunting on to his grandchildren, who will forever cherish their time spent with "Gramps" in the wilderness.
In 1966, Joe married Karen “Midge” Short (Keene), and together they raised three daughters. Later in life, he married Doris Short (St. Pierre), with whom he shared a long, happy, and tranquil life "up on the mountain."
Joe was predeceased by his parents, brothers Roland Short and Robert Short, and sister June Short Charest.
He is survived by his daughters, Sherri Vallee (John Frey), Tracy Stevenson, and Kelly Tremblay (Rich Tremblay); his wife Doris Short; stepsons Eric St. Pierre (Carrie) and Kevin St. Pierre (Kim); grandchildren Brian Leighton (Molly), Courtney Vallee, Brett Vallee (Noelle), Dylan Levasseur, Beau Stevenson (Nicole), Brooke Stevenson, Devin McMahan (Eliza), Whitney McMahan (Branden), Mikaila Tiner (Erik), Mariah St. Pierre, Keenan St. Pierre, and Arielle St. Pierre; and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers William Short, James Short and Michael Short. As well as his “baby” sister Cindy Short Cassidy (Jim) who adored her big brother. Also leaving behind many nieces and nephews.
Joe also leaves behind his beloved dogs, Missy and Buxton.
A service in Joe's honor will be held on Monday, February 17, 2025, from noon to 2 PM at Funeral Alternatives on Tampa Street in Lewiston, ME.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society in Lewiston, ME.
