Biography:

Robert W. Sampson, 78, of N. Turner, died Monday Oct. 22nd, 2013 at Togus VA Medical Center.

He was born on March 3rd, 1935 in Turner, Maine to parents Cleon and Margaret (Tidswell) Sampson.

Robert attended local schools. He served in the US Navy aboard the USS Mitcher DL2 during the Korean War, and worked in Connecticut for 25 years as a machinist.

He married Goldie Richardson on Nov. 1st, 1957. Together they owned and operated Bear Pond Variety in N. Turner for 23 years. Robert was an avid outdoorsman and liked to go hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing horseshoes and was a New York Yankees fan.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Goldie Sampson; daughter Bonnie and her husband David McLaughlin of Turner; son Jody Sampson of Turner; special grandsons, Derek McLaughlin and his girlfriend Abbey Randall, Scott McLaughlin, and Gabriel Sampson; 2 brothers; 3 sisters; and many aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Robert was predeceased by his parents; and his grandson Brett McLaughlin.

The family would like to thank the staff in the Special Care Unit at Togus, and friends Gregg Trask and Susan Cox of Turner, and Kip and Bev Trembley of Connecticut.

A memorial service will be held at 1pm on Sunday, Oct. 27th, at the North Turner Union Presbyterian Church 58 Howes Corner Road North Turner, Maine 04282. A reception will follow the service at the GAR Hall on Rte 219 in North Turner. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the North Turner Union Presbyterian Church, and Turner Rescue PO Box 135, Turner, Maine 04282.
