Biography:
Lewiston-Maurice J. Roy, died peacefully on March 29, 2012 at 10:13 PM, surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 12, 1937, in Auburn, the son of the late Leo and Wilhelmina Berube Roy.
Maurice graduated from ELHS in 1956, enlisted in the US Navy in January of 1957 and was honorably discharged on January 16, 1963.
On January 16, 1965, he married Joline Begin and they raised 4 children. He was employed at International Paper, Jay, ME for 36 years, retiring in 2002. From 2004 until his retirement on February 5, 2010, he worked as a security guard with Andrews International for ING; a job he really loved but had to retire because of health problems.
He was a member and trustee of First Assembly of God church, Lewiston, ME. His hobbies included painting with oils and he was an avid reader. His family was his life, he was an inspiration to them and a role model, always putting his family first. On a down day, the sunshine in his life was visits from his little 2 year old grandson, Cayden who had a way of lifting his spirit and putting a smile on his face. He cherished his visits and Cayden loved his Pépère.
Maurice is survived by his wife of 47 years, four children, daughter Michele and her husband David of Wales, Sharon and companion, Julie of Arrowsic, Danielle and her husband Tony of Lewiston, son Andy and his wife Laurie of Florida; four grandchildren Tyler, Cayden, Britni and Krista, brother-in-law Ronald Provost of Delaware, an uncle, Henry Gervais of Lewiston, cousins and several nieces and nephews.
Maurice will be sorely missed but will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
He was predeceased by his mother and father and sister, Lorraine Roy Provost.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Daniel Rausch and staff at Central Maine Oncology, especially RN Vivian St. Onge who has been an inspiration and comfort to Maurice and our family, Dr. Oswaldo Bisbal, the Ml and M4 nursing staff and doctors at Central Maine Medical Center, Androscoggin County Hospice Home Health Staff, especially RN Kathleen Langelier for her care and compassion and Pastor Donald Cougle.
A memorial visitation will be held from 1 to 2PM on Monday, April 2nd, 2012, with a service to follow at First Assembly of God church, 70 Hogan Rd. Lewiston Maine. Committal will follow the service at St. Peter’s Cemetery, 217 Switzerland Road, Lewiston, Maine.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Maurice to First Assembly of God Church.
