Date of Birth: July 23, 1930
Biography:
Freeport - Roos, Alain H, 87, passed away peacefully of natural causes on January 26, 2018. He was born on July 23, 1930 in Auxerre, France to Suzanne and Francois Roos. He attended an agricultural college in France, focusing his studies in the dairy sciences. He immigrated to Canada after WWII, where he met his wife of 49 years, Jeanine Thibeault. They married in 1955. In 1964 they moved to a farm in Freeport Maine, along with their children Nathalie and Eric.
Alain worked as a bus driver for Greyhound for 35 years where he earned many safe driving accolades, including recognition of having driven multi-millions of miles safely. In 1986 Alain developed his farmland into the beautiful Roos Hill Drive neighborhood. He worked diligently with the planning board to conserve the natural character and contour of the forest and fields in the development. Indeed, Roos Hill Drive was written up in the Boston Globe, heralded as a stellar example of responsible land management.
Many children have been born and raised in the Roos Hill Drive community, and he considered each an extension of family. He was very proud of their accomplishments. Alain was an animal lover and donated regularly to many animal welfare organizations. Alain's love of the ocean inspired his son Eric to pursue a life on the ocean in many capacities, including harbor master, captain and yacht management. He is pre-deceased by his wife Jeanine, his brothers Claude and Pierre, and sister Francoise. He is survived by his son Eric Roos of Bar Harbor, his daughter Nathalie Forster of Freeport, his son-in-law Kevin Forster, and his grandchildren, Emily Forster (27), Benjamin Forster (24), Nicholas Roos (11), and Alexander Roos (9).
The funeral will be held at St. Jude's Catholic Church in Freeport on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at 10:00 AM. A celebration of his remarkable life is planned for the summer of 2018, waiting for the birds and flowers he loved so well.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Coastal Human Society in Brunswick Maine will be greatly appreciated.
