Date of Birth: January 26, 1931

Biography:

BRUNSWICK, MAINE -- Lyse Rocheleau, 90, formerly of Lewiston, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away at Brentwood Nursing Home in Yarmouth, January 5th, 2022, surrounded by her family. Lyse was born in Montreal, Canada on January 26,1931, the daughter of Alfred and Rose Roberge. After graduating from nursing school at Notre Dame Hospital in Montreal, she worked as a registered nurse until she met and married her husband William Rocheleau Jr. of Lewiston, Maine in 1955. In the early 1960s, while her husband was establishing his law practice in Lewiston, Lyse turned all of her attention to raising their four young children. Having lost her mother to illness at a young age, being a mother and grandmother was her passion, and she proved to be a nurturing, compassionate and adored mother, and later grandmother. When her husband became Mayor of Lewiston in 1966, Lyse transitioned to the perfect running mate as a hostess and volunteer, who also possessed extraordinary culinary skills that people everywhere looked forward to, regardless of politics. Always elegant and gracious, she will be remembered for her welcoming smile and contagious laugh. After her children had grown, Lyse returned to work at Porteous Department Store where she loved the social environment of the store and made lifelong friends. After Bill died in 2000, Lyse moved to Brunswick to be near her grandchildren. She channeled all her love and energy into her grandchildren, whom she adored. “Big Lyse” as she was known to them, was always there, with love and positive words. So many memories, Big Lyse. You are so loved and missed. Lyse is survived by her four children - daughter Diane Allen and her husband, Robert, of Freeport, daughter Michelle Henshaw and her husband, Nathaniel, of Brunswick, sons William and Robert Rocheleau of Brunswick, as well as 4 grandchildren - Spencer Allen of Portland; Sean Allen and wife Laura of Denver, CO; Nicholas Henshaw and wife Sara of New York City, and “Little Lyse” Henshaw of Boston, MA. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly, Pierre Roberge, Guy Roberge, Louise Carpentier, Tina (Lessard) Lambert and Karyn O’Connor. She was predeceased by her brother Gaston Roberge, and her sister Monique Lessard. The family will hold a celebration of life this summer. Donations can be made in Lyse’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association @alz.org
