Michael J. Reid

Date of Death: August 17, 2022

Date of Birth: April 13, 1960

Biography:

West Bath- Michael J. Reid, 62, of West Bath, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 with the love and support of his family. He was born in Brunswick, Maine, the third of four children to Roger E. and Lucy (Dunning) Reid. He grew up in Great Island, Maine and graduated from Mt. Ararat High School in 1978.

In keeping with family tradition, Michael was a lobsterman from an early age. He was employed at several places in the area including Pine Spring Beverages, Brooks Feed and Farm, Pejepscot Paper Company and was a welder at Bath Iron Works, retiring after 30 years.

An avid outdoorsman, Michael was happiest in the woods and on the waters of Maine. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and riding the back roads "up North- destination to be determined".  He was an exceptional cook who took great pleasure in feeding others, most especially family and friends. Barbequed ribs and stuffed meatloaf were a celebrated event, homemade pickles and relish invariably made way into each holiday basket and his smoked cheese and beef jerky were second to none. Michael was a fan of NASCAR, antique car shows and short track racing. He collected wooden decoys, Budweiser steins and vintage wood planers. He had a captivating story (or several) at the ready about everyone he knew, kept treats in the truck for his four-legged friends and was the first to help anyone in need. He was good natured and a true friend, had a great sense of humor and infectious smile, loved his family and country and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Michael and his family wish to express their heartfelt thanks to the unsung heroes of Fresnius Kidney Care and CHANS Home Health and Hospice, for their friendship and utmost care.

Michael was predeceased by his parents and infant sister Ramona Jean. He is survived by his wife Marie, sons Ryan Barnes and Jeremy Reed of Topsham, daughter Amanda Minardi and husband Jacob of Lisbon Falls, brother Clayton Reid and wife Edna of Great Island, sister Lorraine Beaulieu and husband Sherwood of Brunswick, brother-in-law Robert Varney of Federal Way, Washington, brother-in-law Kendall Wallace, Jr. of Phippsburg, and sister-in-law Joanne Wallace of Bath.  Michael also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grand nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2pm on Friday, September 16th at Cundy's Harbor Community Church, with a gathering  held at Orr's Island School House immediately following. At Michael's request, burial at Hix Small Cemetery in Bowdoin will be announced at a later date.
