Biography:
FREEPORT - Ruth E. Nichols, 82, of
Freeport, died on October 8th, 2012 at Freeport Nursing Home.
She was born on October 25th, 1930 in
Portland, the daughter of William and Emily (Wood) Stanley.
Ruth was educated in Portland Schools and was a
1948 graduate of Deering High School and then attended Grey’s Business College.
She then went on to work at Rines Bros. for 35
years in the shoe department. She also worked for Holy Innocence for 9
years before retiring to Freeport.
Ruth was an active member of Freeport Elders and
a volunteer at the Freeport Clothes Tree. She was a wonderful knitter and kept
everyone supplied with hats and mittens. She loved gardening and feeding the
birds.
Ruth is survived by her son Richard and his wife
Linda of Freeport; daughters Donna Brackett and husband Doug of Otisfield,
Deborah Ward and husband David of Scarborough; 9 grandchildren; 10
great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband John Nichols;
her parents; and brothers Robert and George Stanley.
At Ruth’s request, there will not be any
services. In her memory donations can be made to the Freeport Elder’s
