Biography:
Lewis Stanislaus Murphy—Auburn—Lewis Stanislaus Murphy, 91, died early Wednesday morning, February 21, at Clover Manor in Auburn after a brief illness.Lewis was born on January 14, 1927 in Waldorf Maryland, the son of Louis M. and Lucy Langley Murphy. He left school after the tenth grade to make his way in the world, joining the Navy where he served for 4 years. He married Elsie Alberta Wheeler on October 28, 1960 and they resided in Marbury, Maryland for over 30 years.Lewis spent his career at the Naval Research Lab in Washington DC as a Model Maker (machinist), retiring in 1982. His skill and attention to detail led him to work on early satellite and radar systems. In retirement, he founded LewisCrafts where he used those same talents to make wind chimes and handcrafted pens that he and Alberta sold at craft fairs. In 1995, Lewis and Alberta moved to Maine to live with their daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren.Lewis is survived by his wife Alberta of Auburn; daughter Mary Ann Emmert, son-in-law Rick Emmert, grandchildren; Anthony and Corey Emmert and great-grandchildren; Ryleigh, Savana, Julian and Kai Emmert. He was pre-deceased by his parents along with his sisters Julia (Grover) Branham and Theresa (Warren) Adams.The family wishes to thank the staff at Clare Place at Clover Manor for the excellent care they provide during his stay there.There will be a celebration of life at 6 pm on Friday, March 2 at Funeral Alternatives 25 Tampa Street in Lewiston. A private burial will be held at the Maine Veterans Cemetery.
