Biography:

Douglas died peacefully at the home of his sister and brother-in-law surrounded by friends and family. Doug was born in Newton, Massachusetts to parents Douglas Mugford Senior and Cora Mugford Wyman. He spent his childhood in Wrentham, Massachusetts, graduating from King Philip High School in 1969. Doug married Holly weekly and together they had two sons, Benjamin and Nathaniel. He was a man of many talents and skills, working as a carpenter and builder for many years before returning to college earning his degree and education from the university of Maine in Machias. He was employed as a teacher at Elm Street school in East Machias for 19 years, a position that he embraced with passion, Creativity, and the satisfaction of helping students achieve their future goals. He was loved and respected by students and parents alike, known for his larger than life presence, his sense of humor, and for thinking outside the box to engage his students.
Doug enjoyed music and played the harmonica at family and school events as well as with various local bands, including the rocking road dogs. He loved his Boston sports teams, especially the Celtics. When his sons were young, he coached youth baseball soccer. Enjoyed watching his son Ben coach basketball teams as an enthusiastic cheerleader.
dog loved animals, especially his dogs, Dottie and Sophie, who wore his faithful companions. He was interested in current events and politics and based his beliefs on equality and compassion for all living creatures. He was very artistic and could sketch whimsical cartoon characters. From childhood to present, he enjoyed building model cars. He was a deeply spiritual man who experienced his faith in nature, with animals, and by maintaining a curiosity about the mysteries of life.
Douglas is survived by his sons Benjamin and Nathaniel Mugford of Machias, Maine. He leaves behind his brother Donald Mugford and wife, Julie Mugford, a Roanoke, Virginia, sister, Karen, Flynn, and husband, Timothy Flynn of Bowdoin, Maine. He will be missed by his many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends living throughout New England
A celebration of life will be held on January 11, 2025 from 1 PM to 4 PM at the Franco performing center located in Lewiston Maine. All are welcome to attend this opportunity to remember and celebrate Doug.
