Biography:

Bertrand Mercier, 93, of Minot passed away on Sunday, Nov. 6th, in Auburn.

He was born on Jan. 12, 1929 in Lewiston to parents Alfred and Lauretta (Leclair) Mercier.

Bert attended St. Louis School in Auburn until the eighth grade, and graduated from Edward Little High School in 1947. after high school, he was a delivery driver for Murphy's Furrier until the 50s when he was drafted into the US Army during the Korean War. After being discharged, he worked as a time study engineer for the Pepperell Mill. During that time, Bert met the love of his life, Aline Fortin, and they were married on aug. 6, 1955. Bert continued working at the Pepperrell Mill until they closed in 1963. He then worked for Bates Fabrics as an industrial engineer for the next 25 years. He finished his working career as a toll taker for the Maine Turnpike Authority retiring in 2000.

Bert was an avid reader who would make weekly trips to the library until health issues no longer allowed it.

He was predeceased by both parents; brothers Roger, Raymond Robert, and Alfred Jr.; a sister, Ruth D'Amour and two grandchildren, Daniel Philip Mercier and Derek Paul Mercier.

He is survived by his sister, Jackie LaFrance; his children, Donald and Daniel Mercier; their wives, Suzanne and Claudia Mercier; his grandchildren Craig and Timothy Mercier, and Craig and Colby Major; and his great grandchildren, James Major.


We would like to thank lifelong friends, Bert and Pat Labonte, along with their daughter Kris for their support and friendship. We would also like to thank the entire Plummer family for taking “Pops” into their lives and hearts. Finally, thank you to the staff of both Clover Manor, and Androscoggin Homecare and Hospice. Your care was tremendous.

A committal service will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2022 in the mausoleum at St. Peter's Cemetery in Lewiston.
