Biography:

Carolyn (Gross) Malarsie—Auburn—Carolyn (Gross) Malarsie, 87, passed away peacefully at Clover Manor in Auburn on Tuesday, July 4 with her loving family by her side. She was born in Lisbon on December 4, 1929, the daughter of Leon and Huldah (Smith) Goss. In 1951, Carolyn married James Gross, and they had four children together. They were married for 18 years until his death in 1969. Carolyn was later married to Michael Toth, Jr. from 1977 until his passing in 1981. In 1993, she married Leonard "John" Malarsie who passed in 2005. Carolyn graduated from Lisbon High School in 1948 and later attended Central Maine General Hospital's School of Nursing in Lewiston, where she received her RN license. Carolyn adored babies and specialized as an OB/GYN nurse. She worked at Central Maine General Hospital, now Central Maine Medical Center where she assisted in numerous deliveries throughout her career before retiring in 1992. Carolyn found the most pleasure in spending time with her family and cherished her visits to the Maine coast. Her love of travel brought her on numerous tropical cruises and trips. Carolyn enjoyed laughing with friends and family and she loved to dance. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 158 of Lisbon, as well as a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Carolyn is survived by a son, David Gross and his wife, Becky of Sabattus, a daughter, Deborah Ringuette, and her husband, Bruce Guay of Auburn, sisters, Lorraine Szynkiewicz of Litchfield, and Gloria and husband Fred Eck of Belgrade. Nine grandchildren: Karen Robichaud, Lisa David, Lori Bureau, Jeff Pinette, Lisa Storer, Kelly Hebert, Amy Violette, Joshua Gross and Tonya Gross. Sixteen great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Carolyn was predeceased by her parents, husbands, James Gross, Michael Toth, Jr. and Leonard "John" Malarsie, a daughter, Glenys Pinette, a son, Carl Gross, as well as a great-granddaughter, Hailey Rose Emery. She was also predeceased by a sister, Gertrude Hynes, and a brother, Winfield Goss. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Clover Manor and Androscoggin Hospice for their wonderful, compassionate care of Carolyn. A special thank you to Darlene LaBonte and her family for their visits, prayers, and support. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 22 at 11 a.m. at the Davis Cemetery, Littlefield Road, Lisbon. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Maine Cancer Foundation, 170 U.S. Route 1, Suite 250, Falmouth, ME 04105.
