Madeline Irene Levesque

Biography:

Madeleine Levesque, 73, of Lewiston passed away in hospice care on January 23, 2025. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Madeleine was born in Lewiston to Bernadette and Roland “Joe Pete” Levesque on September 22, 1951. She grew up on Bartlett Street during Lewiston’s golden age with her older sisters Connie and Pat, her younger brother Roland, and her many friends and relations. Madeleine attended Saint Peters Catholic School, Lewiston High School, and later studied at the University of Maine - Farmington.

Madeleine met her husband Edward Comeau of Danville, Maine, at the Dunkin’ Donuts in Lewiston. Though in many ways opposites, they shared a loving nature, strong work ethic, and were (extraordinarily) humble and generous (to a fault). Together they raised two boys, always supporting them to be anything they wanted to be. Family always came first,  but Madeleine also worked with children at Kids Corner in Auburn and then with the elderly at Androscoggin Home Health in Lewiston.

Madeleine enjoyed good conversation, laughter, and lively debate (especially about politics). If you were feeling down or needed advice, she was just a phone call away. Though her opinions were razor sharp, she was a great listener, always seeking to understand. Madeleine was a loyal friend who stood up to bullies and advocated for those in need.

A true child of the 1960s, Madeleine loved music (especially Willie Nelson), sewing, organic food, and thrifting before it was a lucrative side hustle. She enjoyed telling the story of how she got to see a young Jimi Hendrix play at the Lewiston Armory before he was famous. Madeleine loved to watch things grow. If your house plant was struggling, just show her a picture and she could probably diagnose the problem. She had a green thumb in the garden, growing tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, and many other veggies for the family. She looked forward to each season’s wildowers
and perennials, collecting beautiful arrangements from the eld next to Lake Auburn. And for some reason, she loved mowing the lawn. 

Above all else Madeleine was a caregiver. Through her work with special need children and the elderly she touched countless lives. She raised her two sons with strength and love. She treated her nieces and nephews as if they were her own. One of the greatest joys of her life was spending time with her two grandchildren. Later in life, she adopted a rescue dog named Bear who was ever by her side (we suspect he might have been her favorite). As members of her family aged, she sacrificed countless hours and tears taking care of their needs before they passed. One of the greatest challenges of her life was caring for her husband, Ed, in the difficult final years of his life. Madeleine felt the sorrows and joys of the world very deeply. Her spirit will be missed.

Madeleine is survived by her son Joseph Levesque and his wife Kim Lloyd Levesque, son Lucas Comeau and his partner Leslie Bridgers, grandchildren Anna and Sean Levesque, her sister Connie Levesque-Silva, lifelong friend Tom Woodard, and many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews who were all welcome as close family, particularly during reunions at the Camp on Lake Auburn.

She was pre-deceased by her parents and husband, all of whom she cared for until the end, as well as her sister Pat Mathieu and brother Roland Levesque.
