Date of Death: April 19, 2025

Date of Birth: October 29, 1929

Biography:

LEWISTON – Harry E. Lapointe, 95, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2025 at Hospice House in Auburn.

Born in Auburn on Oct. 29, 1929, the son of George and Malvina (Daniel) Lapointe, Harry grew up on the family farm with his parents and siblings off the Hotel Road in Auburn. He attended Auburn schools and graduated from Edward Little High School. From 1951 to 1954, he served in the United State Navy. He married Lauretta (Rioux) Lapointe in May of 1957.

He co-founded L&A Tire Company in Lewiston and L&A Tire retreading facility in Sabattus. In 1970 Harry co-founded Lapointe & Sheink Construction Company. In 1976 he founded the family business, L.A. Construction Co. Inc., Harry proudly ran the business alongside his sons until his retirement in 1992. Keeping with his entrepreneurial spirit, Harry was one of five co-founders of Andy Valley Racquetball Club in Lewiston.

Harry was a devoted Catholic and a member of Holy Family Church. He strongly believed in giving back to the community by donating money, frozen turkeys, and Cornish hens to food pantries in the L.A. areas, especially during the holiday seasons.

Harry loved the outdoors and all that the state of Maine had to offer. His favorite hobbies included, fly fishing, golfing, camping, campfires, ice fishing, gardening, smelting, bird hunting over dogs and deer hunting. What Harry enjoyed most about these pursuits, were the times and stories he was able to share with his dear family and friends. Harry was involved for several years in the Football League for Youth, aka FLY. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends in Maine and Florida, where he and Lauretta owned a condo for many years.

He is survived by two sons, Gary Lapointe of Pownal, Robert Lapointe of Lewiston; five grandchildren, Jayce Deschaine, Darcie Brennan, Ashley St.Pierre, Cody Lapointe, and Logan Lapointe; four great-grandchildren, Aubree Pelletier-Deschaine, Raylee Toops, Maeve Lapointe and Cullen Lapointe.

Harry was predeceased by his wife, Lauretta Lapointe; daughter Lynn Lapointe; two sisters, Florence Proctor and Lucille Lapointe, two brothers, Fernand and Armand Lapointe.

The family would like to express gratitude in a heartfelt way to Alfreda Jacob for being more of a sister figure than a cousin, and Justin Toops for being more of a grandson than a friend.

On behalf of Harry’s requests, no celebration of life or visitation hours are to be planned. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on May 1 at Holy Family Church, 607 Sabattus St., Lewiston, at 11 a.m.

The family would like to express a sincere thank you to Susan (Lapointe) Masse for her selfless time and dedication to Harry. We would also like to thank the entire staff at Schooner Memory Care and Andwell Health Partners, and Hospice House for their support and attention they provided to this amazing man.
