Ruth A. Krauth

Date of Death: December 19, 2014

Date of Birth: April 9, 1927

Biography:

LEWISTON - The Family of Ruth A. Krauth mourns the loss of their Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Aunt, Cousin and Friend. Ruth passed away on December 19th 2014 surrounded by family.

Ruth was born in Lewiston Maine on April 9, 1927, the daughter of Annie Wilkinson and Charles Hollis Wetstein. Ruth attended local schools, graduated from Lewiston High School class of 1945, and studied at the University of Maine. In 1946 she met and married Charles M. Krauth of Boston who was in Naval Officer Training at Bates College. He served on a minesweeper during WWII. Charles Krauth died in 1985. They had two boys, Dean & Wayne, and as a family they enjoyed many years of camping and traveling.

Ruth enjoyed crafts, family gatherings, playing bridge and during the years her boys were growing up she was active in school committees. An important part of her family's life was her dedication to the United Baptist Church of Lewiston where both she and Charles held many offices. After a change of direction at the Church Ruth helped the women, who had been members, to form a non-denominational group called the Circle. Not attached to any Church, the Circle cared for home bound friends and supported several homeless shelters in any small way they could. In later years Ruth enjoyed painting and scrap booking and was a member of Romance Writers of America.

She is survived by her two sons Dean Krauth and his companion Jeanne Rollins of Lewiston Maine, and Wayne Krauth and his companion Gayle Dunnigan of Steep Falls Maine, her Grandson Dane and his fiancé Jamie Thibault and their two children Ashton Krauth and Kylie Krauth of Leeds Maine. Her lifetime is chronicled in the many memory books she loved to create and especially in the "Krauth Chronicles" book she wrote. She was a dedicated writer having completed several published and unpublished novels and several short stories which were sold to popular magazines. Her membership in the Woman's Literary Union brought her joy as did her special friendship with her bridge group. Being a supportive friend to those she cared about was most important to her.

A celebration of Ruth's life will be held at Ruth's Wellman Street home on December 27th from 1 to 4 PM.  She will rest in peace beside her beloved husband Charles at the Maine Veterans Cemetery in Augusta.
