Biography:
Doris Jean Kelly Gamble, 66, of Lewiston, passed away suddenly at home on Monday, February 9, 2015 to her new Heavenly home with her family celebrating her arrival.
Doris was born in Sweet Water, Alabama on September 29, 1948 to Rev. George R. Washington and Olaree Richardson. She attended Merengo High School and resided in Mobile Alabama for many years. Doris was a hard worker and over the years held many customer service jobs. Her last employment was in the Auburn Walmart bakery department.
Doris had the ability to bring people together. Busy at work in her kitchen, she filled pots and pans with southern down home cooking. She was a consummate cook and people would eagerly await the chance to taste her fine soul food cuisine. Her home on Sunday afternoons was a place where family and friends would gather for a good time. Her love for cooking was her secret ingredient. Her tell it like it is and words of wisdom rang strong in our hearts. She loved The Temptation's and blues and Gospel music. Doris was a member of Christ Temple Church Of God In Christ in Auburn. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, they all were her shining stars.
She is survived by her husband Robert "Gene" Gamble, Son George
Washington, daughter, Vokesia Edwards all of lewiston. Brothers and
sisters, Mike Richardson, Mobile AI., Rosalyn Washington, Atlanta, Ga. Mamie Jimmerson, Msy Carrie Hull-Chandler, adopted sons Ivan Meikle and Wylie Harris all of Lewiston. Nine grandchildren, Zacchaeus, Kievone, Kristiana, Dayisha, Dante, Ethan, Elisia, Janessa, Mataya. And a host of other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, and son, Alfred Jermaine Kelly.
She will be sorely missed by those who loved her.
The family would like to thank the Dialysis Center of Lewiston for their
many years of great care and service.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday February, 21, 2015 at Christ
Temple Church, 2488 Turner, Rd. Auburn, Me. A period of visitation will be held from 10:00-12:00 am with a Home going service at noon. Graveside services will be held in the spring at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 980 Turner Street, Auburn. Those desiring can make contributions to Christ Temple Church 2488 Turner Rd. Auburn, Maine 04210.
