Biography:
Pamela Ann Johnson passed away January 8, 2024 in Lewiston, ME after a hard fought battle with cancer. She was born in Manhattan, KS on March 15, 1958 to Henry “Bill” Johnson, Jr and Elizabeth (Betty) L Johnson. Shortly after, her parents moved back to Leavenworth, where Pamela grew up and graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1976. She went on to attend Kansas State University for 2 years, then transferred to the University of Kansas where she graduated in 1980 with a Bachelors Degree in Art History. She continued her education at the Kansas City Art Institute, along with teaching, and received her Bachelors in Painting. Life then took her to the East Coast, living in several locations while attending Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture and Bennington College. There she received her Masters Degree in Painting and Printing. She eventually settled in Lewiston ME in 1999, which became her home. She was an Associate Art Professor at Bates College in Lewiston, where she continued to teach until her illness. Pamela had Art exhibits throughout New England and the Midwest and was the recipient of numerous grants and awards. She was known for her paintings, drawings, print making and sculptures. Pamela is survived by her mother, Betty , two sisters, Beth Cates (Ken) of Louisburg KS, Karen DePriest (Bryan) of Leavenworth Kansas, nieces and nephews Steven Cates (Faith) of Louisburg KS, Andrew Cates (Jes) of Biloxi MS, Parker Cates (Kianna) of Lusby, Maryland, Felicia DePriest Holcomb (Brad) and Nicholas DePriest (Shelby) both of Leavenworth, Kansas; 10 great nieces and nephews, Natasha, Eleanor, Griffin, Rowan, Jadyn, Nina, Benny, Kacey, William and Caroline; and her beloved pets, Watson and Mischa.
She was preceded in death by her father and sister, Sheila Johnson.
Pamela was creative and passionate about her art, love of music, her garden that she planned out carefully to constantly bloom, and so much more. Pamela, the sky is now your canvas to paint beautiful sunsets and add your touch to the stormy clouds.
Visitation will be held at 4:30 pm, Friday January 26th, 2024 at Davis Funeral Chapel, 531 Shawnee, Leavenworth, Kansas 66048. Funeral services will follow at 6:30 pm. Internment will be held at a later date. A Celebration of Life will be held at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine later in the Spring.
