Floyd "Gary" Hubley

Date of Death: March 1, 2024

Date of Birth: January 24, 1940

Biography:

Randolph- Floyd “Gary” Hubley, 84, of Randolph, Maine, died at home on March 1, 2024, with the smells of comfort foods wafting in the air and the love of family surrounding him.

Gary was born on January 24, 1940, to Floyd and Leona Hubley of Minneapolis, MN. Early in his life, he felt the call to ministry. In his 60 plus years of service, he served Lutheran, then UCC, and lastly UMC churches as a pastor, interim minister, and supply in Maine, Minnesota, Iowa, and South Dakota. He also served as a missionary in Liberia, Africa.

Gary spent many happy hours fishing, gardening, running, and baking. Throughout the years, he shared his holiday breads and muffins with family and friends. Gary’s giving heart spread joy to the many charities he volunteered: Stephen Ministries, Habitat for Humanity, and various food pantries to name a few.

Gary is predeceased by his parents and his sister, Gail Quittum.

Gary is survived by his wife of 61 years, Judy Hubley; brother, Roger; sister, Kathy; daughters Teresa Hubley (Glenn LeBlanc), Karen Erickson (Richard), and DeLora Reardon (Jeff); nieces and nephews; grandchildren Miranda Whalen (Justin), Kyle Paci, Brielle Paci, Nathaniel Paci, Nicholas Paci, and Forest LeBlanc; two great-grandchildren; and his canine pal, Toby.

Our family would like to thank many people for their prayers, support, and love. We also thank Pastor Angela Rotherham for being a wonderful spiritual support, Gardiner Rescue for their prompt responses and kindness, MaineGeneral Hospice for their care and comfort, Dr. Dohner for providing guidance, and Dr. Murray-James for the remarkable, loving care throughout the many years as dad’s primary.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 16 at 11 a.m. at the Cox Memorial United Methodist Church in Hallowell. A zoom link will be available for those who cannot attend in person. “Gary-isms” and stories of Gary can be sent to Karen Erickson, 513 Scenic Drive East, Sidney, ME 04330.

In lieu of flowers and in the spirit of Gary’s giving heart, please contribute to a charity of your choice and perform an act of kindness.

Diagnosed with a terminal illness, dad felt blessed to be in a state that recognizes the right to die with dignity. If you or a loved one has a terminal illness diagnosis, Gary’s message is to make decisions early in your journey, do your research, and take advantage of the many resources available to you. You are not alone in your journey.
