Rick A. Houghton

Date of Death: July 25, 2022

Date of Birth: January 23, 1951

Biography:

It is with great sadness that we announce the recent passing of Rick A. Houghton (born Michael R. Monk), 71. Rick left us on July 25, 2022, in Lewiston, Maine, following complications from a multi-year battle with dementia.

He was born in Norway, Maine, on January 23, 1951, son of the late Bob and Shirley Houghton. He is survived by his wife, Linda Houghton; his son, Christopher Pepin; daughter, Lori Bernier; and son-in-law, Jarrod. He is also survived by six siblings, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Rick served as an MP in the United States Army for numerous years; returning home to continue his career in law enforcement before following his own path as an entrepreneur. Though his path drew him away from his desire to help, Rick was pulled back to serve his community as a first responder, providing comfort and assistance, a trait for those who are familiar with Rick, was innate to his personality.

An avid fisherman, outdoorsman, nature lover, gun collector and sharpshooter, Rick enjoyed spending much of his time in the woods, hunting, trapping, and logging. He treasured nothing more than to shoot the breeze over coffee, trade stories about hunting and fishing adventures, and sharing his gun and knife collection and knowledge of arms and weapons.

It wasn’t till the 1980’s that Rick was reunited with his biological family and reconnecting with his native American ancestry; giving him the precious gift of many brothers and sisters, and the opportunity to spend time learning about his family, his roots, and building new memories to carry with him.

Rick will be remembered as a kind and loving man who cared deeply for his family and many friends. He will be missed by all those that knew him.

A private committal service will be held at Central Maine Veterans' Cemetery in September, where Rick will be interred with military honors.

Rick’s family will hold a Celebration of Life, honoring Rick and welcoming friends and family to share memories and regale stories. A date will be announced through social media outlets.
