Biography:

Auburn--Rickie Nelson Hood, 70 of Auburn passed away peacefully on February 27, 2024 after battling cancer.

After graduating from Edward Little High School class of 1972, Rick drove taxi in Lewiston/Auburn for many years, taking summer breaks to bike, hike and live in the Maine woods, fishing and hunting small game, at leisure.
He lived a life that was unique to him then started a professional truck driving career that noted him Rookie of the year, a Million Mile Driver, Driver of the Year in 2009, and multiple driving safety awards through out 32 years of traveling in the Northeast with Merrill and Superior Carriers trucking companies. The stories about truck driving and several close calls were very exciting but could've ended in disaster and he talked about how lucky he was to have made it alive, especially in winter on cold dark nights, slippery roads, and downhill deliveries.
Rick rode his motorcycle across country with John Murphy, from Groveland, Mass.in 1975. They spent many adventurous months together traveling out west and on to California and then to Florida. They got jobs here and there when they ran out of money or a bike broke down.
He loved to fly his remote controlled planes and on holidays or other visits we'd all go watch him.
National Geographic flight and space were always in his interest. He knew alot about history and World War ll.
His 7th Great Grandfather, Gersham Flagg , was the architect of Fort Western in Augusta, the Pownalborough Court House in Dresden and several other historical buildings around the state of Maine.
He loved old western movies and TV programs.
Dunkin donuts coffee and donuts were a favorite of his.
Rick had hundreds of DVDs and because he spent many long hours on the road, would watch movies at his convenience.
Rick was predeceased by his parents Sylvia Folkenroth and Nelson Hood, Jr.
Rick leaves behind his son Jacob Goodwin of Maine,  sisters Deborah Neumeister of Lake Wales, Florida, Louella Hood of Auburn, Maine, niece  Sara Johnson of Jacksonville, Florida, nephew Blake Neumeister of Vassalboro, Maine, and  niece Lindsey Neumeister of Wesley Chapel, Florida and many cousins, friends and acquaintances.
A celebration of life memorial will be held in late spring.
