Uta V. Hillery
Date of Death: April 1, 2019
Date of Birth: December 16, 1937
Biography:
BRUNSWICK - Uta V. Hillery, 81, of Brunswick, ME, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2019.
During her life, Uta touched so many people on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean, often with humor and brownies. She was born in Vienna, Austria on December 16, 1937 to Heinz and Violetta Schmidt, and graduated from the University of Vienna. She traveled extensively throughout Europe and spoke several languages fluently, providing a career as a translator. She moved to the U.S. with her first husband and became a U.S citizen shortly after that marriage dissolved.
Soon after Uta met her second husband, Robert, the two moved to Orr’s Island where they were active members of the community for 25 years. Uta volunteered many years of assistance to the Orr’s & Bailey Island Fire Department, the Bailey Island Library Hall, and the Mingo Club, serving several years as an officer of those community organizations. She loved to cook, loved to entertain, and loved to garden.
Uta is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Robert. She is survived by: her sister Lore Conrad-Billroth and husband Andreas; brother Christoph Schmidt and wife Reni, all of Austria; her step-children Robert and wife Diane (NH), Barbara (NY), and Nancy and husband Darryl (NY); grandchildren Matthew and wife Sarah (Brunswick), Kate, Kris, Colton and Carson; and great-grandchildren Parker, Lilly and James. There are also many nieces, nephews, cousins and god-children around the world.
Those who knew Uta know it was wise to obey her, and indeed she had the t-shirt (She Who Must be Obeyed). Therefore, in keeping with her wishes, there will be no viewing and no funeral service. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Bolster Heights Residential Facility and Beacon Hospice for helping to make Uta’s last days peaceful and comfortable.
