Helen E. Durgin Hewins—Greene—Helen E. Durgin Hewins died Thursday, July 6 at an Auburn facility. She was born on June 9, 1924 in Providence, RI a daughter of Reginald and Elizabeth McCarthy Durgin. She worked at Knapp Shoe for 29 years and was a volunteer at Central Maine Medical Center for 22 years. Helen was a member of the Women's Club of Greene for many years. She was predeceased by her husband Stanley Hewins, two daughters, Beverly Greenwood and Gail St. Germaine, 2 brothers and 3 sisters. Survivors include her daughter Glenda Johnson and husband Howard Jr., a sister, Gladys Sawyer of Turner and brother John Durgin Jr. of Greene, 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. Services will be private. Donations in her memory may be made to Greene Fire Department 106 Patten Road, Greene, Maine. Arrangements by Funeral Alternatives, Lewiston.
