Date of Birth: October 17, 1926

James J. Haversat, of Falmouth, passed away January 8, 2010 at the Gosnell House in Scarborough, after a short illness.

A native New Englander, Jim, the only child of John J. Haversat and Alice Petersen Haversat, was born in Seymour, Connecticut on October 17, 1926.   He graduated from Seymour High School and got his pharmacy degree from the University of Connecticut, School of Pharmacy.  A registered pharmacist, Jim worked in the pharmaceutical industry his entire career.

After he retired in the last 1980s, Jim had more time to pursue his many interests:   gardening to volunteering to cooking to golf.  Although he was an avid fisherman, one of his biggest thrills for golf, when he played a couple of rounds with his son Raymond on the Old Course at St. Andrews in Scotland and the Doral in Florida.   His retirement years were punctuated annually as Jim served as a judge for the Maine Blueberry Pie contest associated with the Union Fair.  He was chosen because he made ‘killer pies.’

Jim was also a church volunteer, supported school causes and gave many volunteer hours to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockland, Maine, Maine Medical Center in Portland and Meals on Wheels.

Jim is survived by his wife and best friend of  49 years, Lillian Kerr Haversat;  four children, Eric Haversat of Tewksbury, Massachusetts, Kerry Tillson of Windsor, Vermont, Charly Haversat Matheson of Freeport, Maine, and Raymond Haversat, of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, and their respective spouses, Patricia Johnson Haversat, Marc (Rick) Tillson, Jack Matheson and Susan Miller Haversat.  Additionally, in life, he was comforted by nine grandchildren, Kelsey, Parker, and Theo Matheson, Jacob and Jocelyn Haversat, Corey and Jay Tillson, and Adam and Noah Haversat.

Jim’s life was enhanced by the people around him:  his sister-in-law Cindy; Doctors Paul, Steve, Jonathan, Craig and Kurt; friends Annemarie, Bruce, TOW, Maggie, and many other friends and cousins.

A Celebration and Remembrance of Life will be held Saturday, February 6, 2010 beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the Saltwater Grille, 23 Front Street, South Portland, Maine.  Jim’s cousin, the Reverend Albert Haversat will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, please send remembrances to the Gosnell House, 11 Hunnewell Road, Scarborough, Maine, 04074, or your local food pantry
