Alan Lee Hanson
Date of Death: June 5, 2024
Date of Birth: April 11, 1935
Biography:
Alan Lee Hanson of Bowdoinham passed away peacefully on June 5, 2024.
Alan was born to Alton and Ruth (Pratt) Hanson on April 11, 1935. He lived in
Bowdoinham, Maine most of his life.
Alan attended the Bowdoinham Bishop School and went on to graduate from Brunswick
High School class of 1953. Alan joined the Army Reserves in 1957 and was honorably
discharged in 1963.
In his early years, Alan drove an oil truck for Hinkley Oil. He then went on to have a
reputable painting business called Merrymeeting Painters with Dave and Buster Prout.
As an added bonus….Alan took the opportunity of a lifetime and moved to Alaska for a
couple of years where he worked as an Alaskan fish and game guide.
Alan enjoyed belonging to the Bowdoinham Snowbirds snowmobile club.. He was an
avid outdoorsman….hunting, fishing, feeding the birds, tending his garden…..he truly
was one with nature. Alan was also a creative genius. He built his own home, built
furniture, smelt camps, tied his own flies, kept all his vehicles and motorized equipment
in tip top shape…..there really wasn’t anything Alan couldn’t do. Alan loved sitting on
his deck, having chats with his special friends and sharing great hunting and fishing
stories while enjoying his favorite “toddies”. One of his favorite family places was Mount
Katahdin where he climbed almost every trail. He also took an annual trip to Carpenter
Pond with special friends and caught more “5 pound Brookies” than the average
fisherman. Alan prided himself on his fly fishing abilities, in fact, back in the day, he tied
flies and sold them to L. L. Bean. Alan loved to deer hunt and would be the first to take
a picture of a trophy buck or doe that his brother Bruce, nephew Matthew, or grand
niece Haliegh Bea pursued and post it on Facebook.
Alan was predeceased by his parents Alton and Ruth, his sister Bettina (Hanson) Byras,
and his aunt Thelma Pratt.
Alan is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Bruce and Melody Hanson, his nieces
and nephews: Jennifer Hanson, Matthew Hanson, Thomas Skolfied Jr, Gina (Skolfield)
Begley, Andrew Skolfied and Dennis Byras along with several special grand nephews
and nieces.
Per Alan’s wishes there will be no services; however, a celebration of life will take place
at a later date.
