Biography:
BRUNSWICK - David R. Girardin, 69, of Brunswick passed away at his home surrounded by his family on February 3, 2016 after a valiant fight with brain cancer diagnosed in April of 2015. He was born in Brunswick, Maine on October 3, 1946, the fourth child of Armand and Irene (Michaud) Girardin. He was educated at St. John's Catholic School and was a member of Brunswick High School's Class of 1965. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the Marine Corp Reserves and served from 1965 to 1971 before an honorable discharge as Lance Corporal.
In 1969 he married his wife of 46 years, Cynthia Cleaves of Portland, Maine.
David had a long retail career starting at W.T. Grant and culminating as co-owner and manager of Pennells Apparel in Brunswick. After 42 years. David retired in 2013 with the intent of spending more time with his family.
In 1965, David became a very active member of the Brunswick Knights of Columbus and could often be found there playing cribbage. David was a past Grand Knight and rose to the rank of 4th Degree member during his 45 years of membership.
David is predeceased by his parents, brother Robert Girardin, and niece Cheryl Simonson Grimmel.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Girardin; his children, Jeffrey Girardin and wife Jennifer, Johanna and husband Edward Lloyd, and Heather and husband Jeffrey Picard; his grandchildren, Emily Girardin, Nate Girardin, Jordan Lloyd, Mark Lloyd, Elle Picard, and Bryce Picard; his siblings, Doris Simonson, Donald Girardin and wife Connie, Dennis Girardin and wife Dorna, Theresa Houston and husband Bill, Sheila widow of Robert Girardin, and 12 nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 12, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Parish Church, Maine Street, Brunswick with a reception following at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Brunswick. Internment will be in the spring.
