Thomas E. Gibbon III

Date of Death: March 8, 2021

Date of Birth: April 9, 1965

Thomas E. Gibbon III, 55, of Topsham, ME, passed away in his home the evening of March 8, 2021 after a long battle with type 1 diabetes. He was surrounded by family.

Tom was born in Zanesville, Ohio, the fifth of six children, to Lois Stiles and Thomas II. He attended school in New Lexington, OH, where he met and married the love of his life, Lee Anne Watkins. They would move to Brunswick, Maine soon after to start a family, and Tom would work two full-time jobs until after the birth of their eldest son, Steven, in 1987.

Over the next nineteen years until the adoption of their second son, Jesse, in 2006, he was determined to adapt his work circumstances to his health, transitioning from the printing industry to accounting and finally real estate. His interests, too, evolved from playing and coaching sports to card games, music and audiobooks, but it was his charisma, his humor and his knack for compelling storytelling that captured the hearts and minds of so many. He was a loving husband, a proud father and grandfather, and a gracious host.

He is survived by his wife of thirty-five years, his mother and step-father, his two sons, four siblings, a younger step-brother, and fifty-nine nieces and nephews (most of whom he taught to drive), as well as a granddaughter. He is predeceased by his Father and his sister, Lynda.

Tom’s legacy is one of joy and selflessness. He will be remembered for his wit, his generosity of spirit, and his determination to bring light into the lives of others even while he fought privately with illness.

A celebration of life will be held (and live-streamed) on March 14 at 2:30 p.m. from the Cornerstone Baptist Church at 771 Lewiston Road, Topsham, ME. Family, friends, and anyone whose lives were touched are encouraged to stop by and share their memories. To stream live, go to or find Cornerstone Baptist of Topsham, Maine on youtube at the start of the service (Link Provided)
