Marilyn G. Edgar
Date of Death: January 5, 2024
Date of Birth: March 31, 1929
Biography:
Marilyn G. (McLean) Edgar, 94, died at her home on January 5, 2024 in North Yarmouth, ME. Her husband of 68 years, Hugh Edgar, predeceased her in 2016. They both enjoyed everything
the area had to offer, along with the companionship and care of family and stellar neighbors. The birds and wildlife that visited every day brought delight and nature’s calming influence to
her life.
Despite enduring Rheumatoid Arthritis since early childhood, Marilyn led an active life, raised three children (who turned out fairly well) and maintained the home that nurtured them and
welcomed all the neighborhood kids in Charlestown, NH. Marilyn, our mother, was the last of our elders, and for the 'kids' who grew up under her loving and watchful eye, there are warm memories of a small town childhood— every memory enhanced by her presence. Imagine our walk home from our little school under arching elm trees (sun-dappled or snow-laden), greeted by loaves of bread hot from the oven, a jar of peanut butter and the admonishment "Change your clothes and go out and play." Heaven. Our mother sewed our clothes, cooked and baked, taught us her skills, learned new ones herself… and instilled in us the ways of existing kindly in the world. She attended the Modern School of Fashion Design in Boston, studied with a tailor and later learned to weave on a loom. She was handy and artful, meticulous in all her endeavors.
She was a major influence for her many grandchildren at various stages of their lives. She was gracious, a wonderful baker of treats and always a source of advice and wisdom and
stories. A voracious consumer of literature, she traveled the world from home and kept up with current events with an open and inclusive mindset.
Marilyn was born in 1929 to Florence and Edgar McLean of Saugus, MA. Her older sisters, Marjorie and Shirley, passed before her. She is survived by two daughters and one son:
Sheryl and her husband, R. Scott Jameson, who live in N. Yarmouth; Susan and her husband, Mark Haubrich, from Putney, VT; H. Michael Edgar who lives in Meredith, NH (whose wife,
Heidi, died in 2023). Her many grandchildren and great grandchildren, of course, kept her engaged with all their activities and accomplishments. We will miss everything about her and
remember her always.
