Ricky D. Dunning 55 of Harpswell, died on April 17, 2024, at Androscoggin Hospice House in Auburn, Maine, surrounded by his loving family as he peacefully went to meet his Savior.

He was born October 18, 1968, in Brunswick, Maine to Sandra Russell, Dunning Potvin and Jack Dunning.

He attended Mt. Ararat High School. Raised in Harpswell on the mid coast and into a family with a heritage of lobstering, he would follow their traditions and lobster most of his life. He fished with many local lobstermen over the years. Lobstering is not an easy occupation, but it was the one that Rick longed to do even as his health failed. He loved being on the water, rising before the sun to greet the day. Habits that remained even when the season ended. In early years he worked at Goodwin’s Chevrolet where he learned auto body repairing and used his skills many times. He was skilled at fiber glassing boats and detailing vehicles. His resume included wharf building that he had learned working with his stepfather James Potvin Sr. Rick learned mechanic skills, wood working, fixing repairing, handyperson skills from times spent with his father in the “shop.” Rick was a worker capable of everything he put his mind to.

He enjoyed music, coming from a family of musically gifted people. He was a musician himself, playing guitar, drums, and keyboard. Over the years he used his gifts as the drummer in a family band. He liked to be with other fellow musicians to “Jam.” Like his parents, sister, and other family members he had a talent for singing.

Rick, remembered for his comical actions and quick wit that drew others to him. A very likeable person, humble, sometimes stubborn, but always genuine. He liked his “space,” a private person by nature. He loved his family and friends, forever loyal to them.

Rick is predeceased by his grandparents, William and Louise Russell, Harvey and Christine Dunning, his stepfather, James Potvin Sr, many uncles and aunts, several cousins.

Rick is survived in this life by his mother, Sandra Potvin. his father Jack Dunning and wife Cheryl, his sister Stacy Burns and husband Dennis, stepsister Allison Wiest and stepbrother Chad Vaillancourt and wife Tania, nieces, LeAndra and Shania Richardson, Julia Bowen, and Olivia Vaillancourt, a nephew Nolan Wiest, great nieces Mackenzie, Arianna and great nephews Grayson and Abel.
