Shirley S Cyr

Date of Death: December 29, 2024

Date of Birth: June 28, 1935

Biography:

Shirley Simmons Cyr, 89, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2024 in Auburn, Maine. Born in Biddeford, Maine, Shirley moved to Connecticut in 1954 with her beloved husband, Joseph, who passed away in 2007. In addition to raising her family, Shirley worked in the insurance industry as a financial analyst for 40 years before retiring. She was a devoted longtime member of SS. Isidore and Maria at Saint Paul Church in Glastonbury, CT. Shirley loved to sing and sang in the church choir for 20 years, volunteered in the office, and taught catechism to the younger children for many years.

Shirley had a mind for numbers, games (Scrabble and setback), and crossword puzzles. She loved keeping current on news and weather events to hold her own in conversations. Her most favorite leisure activity was walking with her beloved husband, Joe, finding a park bench to enjoy an ice cream cone (the odder the flavor combination, the better), and watching passersby. Much of their time was spent at their summer house in Goose Rocks Beach, Kennebunkport, Maine.  Shirley will be remembered by her family and friends for the smile she always freely gave, no matter the circumstance.

Shirley leaves two daughters and their spouses, Laura and James Page of Windham, ME and Joy and Larry Hansen of Newington, CT; four grandchildren, Melissa Todd and her husband, Zach, Eric Page, Justin Hansen and his wife, Kelle, and Rachel Hansen; and two sisters with nieces and nephews, Hope Simmons of Limington, ME and her children, Giovani Cardona and Logan Simmons, and Joan Kusmik and her son, Marc Simmons in Massachusetts. She is predeceased by her brother, Howard and nephew, Scott Simmons.

A weekday mass will be dedicated to her memory at SS. Isidore and Maria Church in Glastonbury, CT on Monday, February 10, 2025 at 7:30 am. A private service for family and close friends will take place in summer, the most beautiful time of year in Maine. Please contact a family member directly for details. Donations in Shirley’s name may be made to the American Heart Association (www.heart.org).
