NORTH YARMOUTH - Edgar A. Craig, 92, passed away on May 6, 2016 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House after a brief illness with his family by his side. Edgar was born in Brockton, MA on May 4, 1924, son of Edgar A. Craig and Olive Knowles Craig. Edgar grew up in Easton, MA; graduated from Oliver Ames High School and Northeastern University with a degree in mechanical engineering. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII aboard the landing ship LSM 280 in the Pacific. Ed lived for many years with his wife Jean in Scituate, MA before moving to North Yarmouth to be near family; having spent much time sailing, vacationing, visiting family, and working on various engineering jobs in Maine over the years. Ed and Jean had a wonderful life together for over 64 years. Ed and Jean inspired everyone they met with their friendly, fun and positive attitudes toward life. Ed was an active member of the community and had many interests. He was an active member and past commodore of the Satuit Boat Club in Scituate. He loved sailing and spent many enjoyable years sailing, racing and cruising with good friends and family. Ed and his wife Jean spent many years restoring their antique cape house, raising sheep, and gardening in Scituate. He was also an expert woodworker and furniture builder; he always had a project going. Much of the beautiful furniture in their house was built by him. Ed and Jean enjoyed traveling as well. They sailed and cruised all over New England, the east coast and the Caribbean with great friends. They traveled through Canada, the U.S., Europe, and the Caribbean on tours and cruise ships. In Maine, Ed volunteered at the Compass Project in Portland, helping students with boatbuilding skills. He recently traveled to Washington D.C. as an Honor Flight WWII veteran, an experience he enjoyed immensely. Edgar was predeceased by his wife Jean in 2015. He is survived by his daughter, Carol Nale of Yarmouth, ME and his son, Thomas Craig and wife Ann of West Newbury, MA. He was predeceased by his son Wilfred Craig of Hull, MA. He also leaves seven grandchildren; Jean Nale Rank, John Nale, Craig Nale, Stewart Craig, Margaret Craig, Benjamin Craig and William Craig; as well as three great-grandchildren.
