Ryan Coy

Date of Death: October 28, 2024

Date of Birth: July 13, 1981

Biography:

Ryan T. Coy, 43 of Mechanic Falls passed away October 28, 2024 with family by his side. He was born July 13, 1981 in Lewiston.

Ryan was known for his warm smile, kind heart, and positive attitude. He had a smile that would light up the room. He loved his family, friends and his favorite girl Ruby (his dog) with all his heart.  He touched many people's lives. Most importantly he was a wonderful son, great friend, devoted partner, and loving step dad.

Ryan grew up in Mechanic Falls and Auburn. He attended schools in both towns and graduated from Edward Little High School in 2000. He went on to join his grandfather in the plumbing profession. He was a partner of S&D Plumbing and Heating.

In 2006, Ryan's life was forever changed by a spinal cord injury that would leave him a quadriplegic. He would not let this hold him back. Life would become more difficult. Something as basic as getting into his car required lifting himself with just his arms. Nevertheless he did this daily, for nearly 20 years. He did this to visit friends, to camp, to play rugby, to party, to be a taxi for those he cared for, and to continue living life as an adventure.

He was a fierce competitor and was a lifelong athlete, playing every sport available to him as a kid. He had a particular love of hockey and played for Edward Little High School. After graduation, he continued playing junior hockey. Ryan was a huge Boston Bruins fan! Years later, he would discover a love for wheelchair rugby. He was a proud player for the NEP Wheelchair Rugby team and his passion for the team would lead him to drive up to 1,600 miles for tournaments.

Beyond athletics, Ryan had a connection with the natural beauty of his home state. He loved boating its lakes with friends, as well as fishing those lakes, summer or winter. He enjoyed four wheeling through the mud with his best friend Ruby. He also loved playing with RC cars with his step-children.

He is survived by his parents, Carol Coy and Keith Landry: his brother and partner, Brent Landry and Amanda Surrette; his partner, Jessica Magofna; his step children, Mikayla, Lexie, Terra, Kloey, and Evhan; his grandparents, Patricia Coy, Paul and Giselle Landry; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He is predeceased by his grandfather, Stanley Coy and his beloved dog, Ruby.

A Celebration of Life will happen in the near future.

Please consider donating to the NEP Wheelchair Rugby Team in Ryan's honor:
