Biography:

Ronald L. "Poppy" Cordner—Freeport--Ronald L. "Poppy" Cordner, 90, of Freeport, passed away on Flag Day, June 14, 2018 after suffering many years with chronic illness. He was the only son of Annabelle Carrig born on March 31, 1928 in Olean, New York. A proud World War II Navy Veteran of 30 years, Ron retired as an Air Traffic Controller. He was also a Certified Diamontologist/Gemologist and retired from 20 years of law enforcement. Ron was a lifelong mason of Casco Lodge #36 in Yarmouth as well as the Police Association and the Farmall Tractor Club. "Poppy" enjoyed spending time with his family in the only place he considered home. He loved his grandchildren with his whole heart and soul. He was so proud of the kind and successful young adults they have become. He enjoyed bird watching, gardening and fishing. He was also an avid coin and knife collector. "Poppy" cherished his beloved barn and tinkering on his Farmall Cub tractor and polishing his antique T-Bird. He was predeceased by his infant grandson, Nicholas Lee Cordner in 2001. Survivors include his beloved wife and best friend of 54 years, Sandra "Chi-Chi" (Stappas) Cordner. Daughter Krista and eldest grandson, Ryan of Topsham. Son, Desmond and his wife Julie, granddaughter Selena and grandson Sam, all of Lisbon Falls. His sister, Kathryn Roberts and her husband Paul of Epping, NH and beloved extended family and many lifelong friends. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 23 at the homestead on 855 Lewiston Road, Topsham from 2-6 p.m. With a formal service to take place at 2 p.m. Please honor his memory by making a donation to Honor Flight of Maine, PO Box 1770, Portland, Maine 04104.
