Biography:
Roberta Herbert Coon passed away peacefully due to complications of chronic medical conditions on April 19, 2024, in Freeport, Maine. She was 78 years old.
Roberta is survived by her children Nolan (wife Holly), Gena, Joel (wife Samantha), and Anna Coon; grandchildren Brendan, Ryan, Nathan, Maggie and Cedar; her sisters Jane (husband Pat Morrison), and Ann (husband Bill Dantuma). She is predeceased by her husband Norman Coon, mother Pearl Herbert, father Jack Herbert, brother Raleigh Herbert, and mother Gena Herbert. Roberta was born on April 28, 1945 in Huntington, West Virginia to Jack and Gena Miller Herbert. She graduated from high school at Grand Ledge Academy in 1963. She then did a three-year diploma program in nursing through Andrews University and Hinsdale Hospital . In 1966 she graduated from the program and married Norman Coon. Norman and Roberta moved to Loma Linda, California where Roberta passed her RN boards and got her BSN degree in 1971. A couple years later her first of four kids was born. Roberta left her nursing job to be a stay-at-home mom. After the children were old enough she used her nursing skills in her husband’s office for a couple years. She eventually retired but years later often reminded her care givers that she had a BSN in nursing.
She was a talented pianist and vocalist and enjoyed playing for or singing in church. Roberta was a gracious host to people in her home. She often invited visitors, families, or the needy etc. home from church for lunch on Sabbath. She was an active and dedicated member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Roberta loved volunteering at the Adventist Community Service Center in Brunswick, Maine.
A celebration of life service will be held October 5, 2024, at 4pm at the Brunswick Seventh-day Adventist Church, Brunswick, Maine. In lieu of flowers or memorial contributions donations can be given to Maranatha Volunteers International (www.maranatha.org).
