Biography:
Barry Wayne Compton, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away on October 29, 2024 surrounded by family, in Bath, Maine. Born on September 22nd, 1953, in Roanoke, Virginia to the late Rev. Herbert & Rae Compton. Barry was a devoted family man who touched the lives of many through his ministry work and genuine kindness.
Barry's legacy is carried on by his loving wife Darlene Compton; children Barry N. Compton, Heather Jackson (spouse: Scott), Darryl Compton (spouse: Anita), Rashell Thompson (spouse: Ayotunde), Meggan Jackson (spouse: Greg) and Ashlea Koehling (spouse: Tristan); siblings Karen Davis and Kevin Compton; as well as numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A man of unwavering faith and compassion for others - Barry dedicated much of his life to ministering within the Nazarene Church. His impact was immeasurable as he provided comfort to those in need with an open heart that knew no bounds. He had an innate ability to connect with people from all walks of life which made him a cherished figure among those who were fortunate enough to know him.
In addition to his ministry work - Barry found immense joy in spending time with his family. Whether it was sharing stories around the dinner table or getting together for numerous family events/Holidays - he cherished every moment spent with loved ones.
His friendships were deep-rooted and enduring - built upon trust, loyalty and laughter. Those lucky enough to call him friend will forever hold onto the memories they made together.
The loss of such a remarkable soul has left an indelible mark on all who knew him, but we find solace knowing that he now rests peacefully alongside loved ones who have gone before him.
Barry's memory will live on through the countless lives he touched during his time here with us - leaving behind a legacy defined by love, compassion and unwavering faith.
A celebration of life will be held at the Brunswick Church of the Nazarene on November 16, 2024 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to help build schools for children in Africa, a project close to Barry’s heart.
