Laurie Ann Clark

Date of Death: May 11, 2022

Date of Birth: November 9, 1964

Biography:

AUGUSTA-Laurie Ann Clark passed away peacefully on May 11, 2022 at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta, ME at the age of 57. The eldest of four siblings, she attended high school in Marlboro, MA before completing her bachelor’s degree in economics at Colby College in Waterville, ME.

She left the workforce early to raise her children, committing herself fully to supporting them, their school, and the local community. During this time, she was an active member of the Royal River Chorus, an all-women barbershop group, attending and winning multiple competitions both in the chorus and in smaller quartets. After 20 years at home she earned her master’s degree in Organizational Leadership in 2010 from Southern New Hampshire University and swiftly resumed a successful professional career in human resources, culminating in her position as Director of Compensation for the University of Maine System.

Laurie was driven and self-motivated, giving one hundred percent of herself to everything she did. She loved nothing more than taking on a challenge, whether it was a difficult renovation project, a delicate human resources dilemma, or a tricky chip shot onto the 18th green. An avid golfer, she scored three holes-in-one on her home course at Western View and participated regularly in organized play. Her motivation and commitment to her interests was never more evident than when she took up skiing later in life, something that her children would never have expected. She quickly mastered Sunday River, where she spent winters with her partner Than Herron. Always looking for her next project, she renovated and improved every space she lived in, from her homes in Topsham and her condo at Western View to her daughter’s camp on Threemile Pond. She planned renovations on her partner’s properties as well, which will be completed in her vision but missing her personal touch.

Laurie approached life with enthusiasm, finding the best in every day. To her friends she was a force of positivity, bringing happiness to those around her with her humor, intelligence, and joy. To her family she was a guiding force, offering support and advice with a combination of compassion and pragmatism. She was a fierce but fair competitor, a caring and attentive mother, a great and loyal friend, and a confident and accomplished woman. Her warmth, her humor, and her love will be sorely missed by all who were close to her.

She is survived by her daughter Caitlin Cornwall and fiancé Scott, her son Alex Cornwall and fiancée Guerin, her partner Nathaniel Herron, her mother Ann Clark, her father and stepmother Robert and Margaret Clark, her siblings Jason Clark and wife Keri, Amy Margagnoni and husband Greg, and Bryan Clark and wife Alexis, as well as many close friends and other family members.

A celebration of her life will be held at Western View Golf Club on Saturday June 18th at 1pm.  Western View will host their weekly golf scramble in her honor on Sunday June 19th. All are invited to stop in and share memories, have a drink, and golf to celebrate Laurie.
