Biography:

Richard J. Carey—Sabattus--Richard J. Carey entered the Kingdom of Heaven August 17, 2021 after losing his battle with a terminal illness. He made his home in Sabattus with “The love of his life” Linda Fluker for the last 16 years. While in high school he was a member of the Maine Army National Guard. He attended Thomas College in Waterville majoring in business and graduating in 1969. In his lifetime Richard pursued many business opportunities. He was a Eureka Salesman for many years throughout the State of Maine. He was a department manager and store manager for several retail locations including, Mammoth Mart, Jordan Marsh and Wellby Super Drug. Later in life he owned, operated, and manager 21 apartment buildings in the Waterville, Oakland and Winslow area. Most recently he worked nighttime security and maintenance at Clover Healthcare which he retired from in 2017. Richard loved celebrating the holidays and hosting cookouts with his family. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, and enjoyed spending time with his two dogs; Max & Maddy. He is survived by his significant other; Linda Fluker of Sabattus, his daughters; Lisa Sparrow of Augusta, Lori Mairs of Oakland, his son; John of Buxton and their families. A sister Violet Clukey of Plymouth, ME and half sister Linda Elston-Dykes of W. Palm Beach, Fl, four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Richard was predeceased by his adopted parents, Wilfred and Marie Larouche Carey, his biological mother, Constance Jacobs, his daughter Michelle Hamel and his dog, Molly. A special thank you to Androscoggin Home Health and Hospice care for making it possible to fulfill his final wishes which were to see his dogs again and to be surrounded by his family in his home. A private graveside memorial will be held at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery in Waterville. Donations may be made in his memory to Greater Androscoggin Humane Society, 55 Strawberry Ave, Lewiston ME 04240.
