Paul Edward Candage

Date of Death: July 20, 2024

Date of Birth: October 21, 1951

Biography:

Skowhegan- We have lost a simple, down-to-earth man from Mount Desert Island. Paul Edward
Candage was born in Hulls Cove, Maine, on October 21, 1951, to Chester (Bud) and Georgia
(Cummings) Candage. As a child, Paul was always outside exploring the woods surrounding his
boyhood home and the shoreline, having adventures, usually gathering wildlife to carry home to
show his Mom. Some of his most often-shared memories include the years living at the Portland
Lighthouse, which he was very proud to have experienced, the birds he watched, family
gatherings, and good food. He often could be counted on to use his one-liners; "What good
would that do?" "Put my tools back where you found them.", “Might makes right,” and "Love
you."
Paul worked as a clam digger, offshore fisherman, construction worker, and breakfast cook,
becoming known as the "Omelet King." He enjoyed returning to the Island for some years to
work at Mainely Meats, a job he thoroughly enjoyed. However, his best job was as Dad, Pops,
and Gramp. He was very proud of his family taking any opportunity to brag about his three sons;
Christopher, Ryan and Ian. Paul is survived by his wonderful wife Kelly, his brother Richard of
Texas, his children Christopher and Maria of Town Hill; Ryan and Amy of Bidderford, and Ian
and Erin of Augusta and Buckfield. His grandchildren Teagan and Laura, Colby and Courtney,
Maddy (Georgia) and Eric, Aiden, Mason, and Raegan. Great Grandbabies Calvin, Scarlett,
Abel, his Grandpuppies, his sisters and brothers-in-law with whom he enjoyed bantering with at
every occasion, Paul's good friend Paul French, and family and friends from the Island and
Skowhegan.
There will be a celebration of life at a later date. For those who wish, donations can be made in
Paul's memory to the Autism Society of Maine or Maine Audubon.
