Janet E. Burgess

Date of Death: April 9, 2022

Date of Birth: January 5, 1930

Biography:

Janet Emma Burgess, 92, of Pownal, ME and formerly Cleveland,TN, died on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Janet was born in Portland, ME, on January 5, 1930, to William A. & Alice E. Levecque.

Janet was raised in Portland and Falmouth and attended Falmouth Schools.  She graduated from Greater Boston Academy in 1949 and later from Maine General Hospital School of Nursing.  Janet spent many years working as an R.N. at Parkview Memorial Hospital.

Janet married the love of her life, Richard O. Burgess, at the White Memorial Seventh Day Adventist Church on April 4, 1965. Richard and Janet were childhood friends who reconnected after 25 years apart.  Richard and Janet lived in many places in Maine and in the south before settling in Tennessee.  Janet moved back to Maine in 2020 to live with her youngest son and daughter-in-law.

Janet was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, most recently the Ladd Springs Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Cleveland,TN.

Janet was a talented knitter who made the most beautiful sweaters.  She also had a green thumb and loved flowers of all kinds - especially red geraniums.  Her family will be blessed for years to come by the beautiful gardens she created at her Pownal home.  Janet adored her sons and grandchildren.  She helped care for her Tennessee grandchildren and always stayed in touch with her Maine grandchildren by calling to check in, or sending a note to let them know she was thinking of them.  Most importantly, she prayed over her family faithfully.

Janet was predeceased by her parents; two brothers; and her husband, Richard.

Janet is survived by her son, Brent Burgess, and his wife Rebecca, of Charleston, TN; son, Bradley Burgess, and his wife Kimberly, of Pownal, ME; and step-son, Richard Burgess and his wife Jean, of Hollis, ME.  Affectionately known as "Grammy", Janet is also survived by her grandchildren Brooke Burgess and Stephanie Burgess of Auburn, ME; Kylie Burgess, Kevin Burgess and Kristin Burgess of Charleston, TN; step-grandson Daniel Burgess of Scarborough, ME; and step-granddaughter Kathy Corby of Alexandria,VA.

Janet's family wishes to extend their gratitude to CHANS Home Health & Hospice for their support and compassionate care during Janet's last weeks.  An extra special thank you to Amanda T., Kim R., and Annie B.

At her request, there will be no services.
