Marilyn Gertrude Brown

Date of Death: August 31, 2022

Date of Birth: July 18, 1930

Biography:

GARDINER – Marilyn Gertrude Brown passed away at Androscoggin Hospice House on August 31, 2022, following a brief illness. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

Marilyn was born July 18, 1930, to Madeline (nee Walker) and Ruel P. Brown of Gardiner. Marilyn attended Gardiner schools, residing for 92 years in the family home where she and her siblings were raised. Family, faith, and community were the center of Marilyn’s life. She spent her early adult years working for the family company, James Walker and Son, and was later employed by Central Maine Power Company Credit Union. A lifelong congregant of the Highland Avenue United Methodist Church, she was an actively involved member of the Marion Chapter, Eastern Star, having served as a past Worthy Matron. She enjoyed volunteering her time at Chrysalis Place/Gardiner Food Pantry for many years.

Marilyn cared about people and was friendly, loving, and empathetic. Her genuine curiosity and interest in others was disarming, always welcoming the conversation and company of a friend. Her nieces, nephews, and pets were Marilyn’s children. She loved so generously, and her spirit endures in those who loved her in return. She was patient and kind. Never more so than with her beloved Boston terrier, Brownie.

Marilyn was predeceased by her parents; brothers James and Francis (Lucille); sisters Barbara Andrews (Elmer) and Nancy Hatch (Linwood); nephew Geoffrey Brown and many special pets whom she loved and cared for dearly.

She is survived by her brother Paul (Louise); sister-in-law Anna Brown (James); nephews James Jr. and Kevin Brown, Bruce and Ted Brown; Nieces Judy Brown, Charlene Peasley, Rita Fullerton, Gayle Hendsbee, Debbie McKee, Julie Crosby, Kally Cotton, Lynn Green, Lisa Thompson, and Nici Hoyle, and by dear lifelong friend Claire Malcolm Moore. Marilyn was greatly loved by her large, extended family and by many friends among her church and community.

A funeral service will be held at the Highland Avenue United Methodist Church, 31 Highland Avenue, Gardiner, Maine on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating or volunteering in Marilyn’s memory to the following organizations that she cared about: Highland Avenue United Methodist Church; Chrysalis Place/Gardiner Food Bank, 576 Brunswick Avenue, Gardiner, Maine 04345.
