Biography:

PHIPPSBURG - Michael Bornyak, 82, of Phippsburg, Maine, passed away suddenly Friday, August 10, 2018 at Mid Coast Hospital.

He was born in Johnstown, PA, November 6, 1935, to parents who emigrated from Czechoslovakia.

Mike spent his career as a tug boat captain. He loved the sea and was most at home when he was commanding his tug, plying the waters up and down the east coast. He could fix anything, from which he got great satisfaction. After retiring, he settled in Maine where he built a new home filled with his maritime memories.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Russell of Phippsburg; his daughter, Michelle Ambrosecchio of Bridgeport, CT; his brother, Bernard of FL; his sisters, Helen Witkowski of Detroit, MI; and Mary Vonick of CT; stepdaughter, Emma Smith, her husband and their children of CT; stepson; Wyatt Whiteman, his wife and their children of CT; three grandchildren, four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, his sisters, Ann and Betty, and his brothers, George and John.

At Mike's request, no funeral service will take place. A private burial at sea will honor his wishes.
